Why Vintage Leathers as a canvas for art?
Vintage leather jackets carry the imprint of a life already lived. Every crease, scuff, faded panel, and repaired seam tells a story of movement, resilience, and individuality. Rather than viewing these marks as imperfections, I see them as a visual record of human experience.
By transforming vintage leather jackets into portraits of cultural icons from music, fashion, and film, I connect the material's own history with the legacy of the people it depicts. These figures have shaped culture through creativity, rebellion, innovation, and self-expression—qualities that are often reflected in the worn character of the leather itself.
Leather has long been associated with many of these worlds. It has been worn by musicians on stage, actors on screen, and fashion pioneers who challenged convention. Reclaiming vintage jackets gives the material a second life, allowing it to evolve from a garment into a work of art while preserving its authenticity and character.
The process is also rooted in sustainability. Instead of creating with new materials, I repurpose existing ones, celebrating craftsmanship and reducing waste. Each portrait becomes unique because no two jackets have aged in the same way, making every piece impossible to replicate.
Ultimately, these portraits are more than likenesses. They are conversations between material and subject, where the history embedded in the leather reflects the enduring influence of the cultural icon it portrays.
